February 22, 2012 – Following the legal center’s intervention, the San Joaquin Valley Coalition of Reason will be able to participate in the Stockton Asparagus Festival alongside other community groups.  The festival’s organizers had refused to do business with the coalition, saying that they “hate God.”  This violated California’s public accommodations law, the Unruh Civil Rights Act, which makes it illegal for businesses to discriminate against or refuse to do business with someone because of attributes such as their race, gender or religious views.  Letter re Stockton Asparagus Festival
