May 16, 2013 – The American Humanist Association’s legal center sent a letter to school officials in Fayette, Missouri, demanding they take steps to end weekly morning prayer sessions held by a teacher at Fayette High School
May 1, 2013 – Today, the American Humanist Association sued the Board of Commissioners in Carroll County, Maryland for opening its meetings with Commissioner-delivered sectarian prayers.
April 25, 2013 – The legal center has filed a lawsuit in federal court against the Rankin County, Mississippi school district to challenge its recent mandatory student assemblies that presented a Christian message as a violation of the separation of church and state.
Feb. 27, 2013 – The American Humanist Association has submitted amicus briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court asking it to uphold lower court decisions ruling that laws that deny legal recognition to the marriages of gays and lesbians are unconstitutionally discriminatory.
February 8, 2013 – Following the legal center’s intervention, the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry will be able to participate in the YMCA’s Flowertown Festival in Summerville, South Carolina, alongside other community groups.
January 28, 2013 – The YMCA Flowertown Festival recently refused to allow a local humanist group (Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry, “SHL”) a booth at its annual event in Summerville, SC.
December 17, 2012 – A Colorado public school has reversed course following intervention by the legal center, allowing a student to wear a shirt for the punk band Bad Religion.
December 12, 2012 – The AHLC has demanded that the El Paso County Board of Commissioners discontinue their practice of opening county meetings with sectarian Christian prayers.
November 30, 2012 – The AHLC has sent a letter to the Colorado Springs City Council demanding the body discontinues its practice of opening city council meetings with prayers.
